For whatever reason it looks like the Jimi Hendrix torrent site Crosstown Torrents has been taken over again by some lame search engine site. Anyone know if the site is still up or has moved to another URL? Thanks.

Well, that's good, and bad I guess. Good that when they come back it will (hopefully) be more stable, but bad that it's not there now...

Any ideas on how long it will be offline while this change happens?

Along with a few other popular Youtube Hendrix channels, JamminJimi was taken down by Sony (they recently got rights to distribute Hendrix songs). MacVoodooChild, Ferry (something else), Ucheriyzz7 (couldn't spell his name properly) and quite a few others are now gone from Youtube.

All you have to do is go to a popular youtube hendrix fan channel like marlowe2219, go on his friends page and see all the gray icons, it's like a Hendrix aficionado hit-list, lol.

Many bootleg hendrix songs are now gone from youtube. Some other random channels have uploaded a few but Ucheriyzz7 (or however you spell his name) uploaded over 600 quality tracks. JamminJimi took rare silent concert footage of Jimi and synced it with sound.

I like the Crosstown Torrents site but have to complain that I tried to sign-up and got a cold elbow to the face. We've needed a good Hendrix board for years. Finally a good one pops up and they won't let me on. I've collected Hendrix for years and know a major collector, yet they sent me a reply saying "Sorry, you failed to meet our membership requirements". When I went back to re-read the registration rules there were no requirements. So I sent them an e-mail back and they ignored it. So what kind of people run a Hendrix site that way? I'm sure Jimi would appreciate his fans being treated that way. :(

I am the only one that sees the new registration moderation...and there is no message like that..that I know of. I certainly didn't send it. When we are back (hopefully in the next day or two) please register again. Sorry for the mixup.

Well then there's only one of two possibilities from that, either you are spooked or I am. That sounds like it needs an internet investigation except I deleted the e-mail. There's something screwy about that that I'd like to follow-through on except I can't figure out a way to do it.

Honestly people, have you ever had to run a site? If not, get off his case. You have NO IDEA the problems that come up and the things you have to do to fix them. And databases? How many of you would know how to import a new table into a database? Do you even know how to manipulate a database at all? Or how about linux? Do you know the basics of getting around a linux server?

Get off his case. It's not as easy to run a site as you may think.

I've never heard of someone getting a message saying they didn't meet site requirements and the moderator coming back and saying he didn't send that message. That's the first time I've ever heard of it. And, no, I'm not making that up. Come on - even you have to admit that's strange (give ME a break).

I already explained. I'm a big Hendrix fan who finally found a decent Hendrix board after all these years. Have you ever seen any of the other laughable attempts at Hendrix chat boards on the internet? Most of them are crude format and the last entry is from years ago. Crosstown is salivatingly excellent. The graphics are well-attended, interesting, and of high resolution quality. It has people who obviously know their Hendrix stuff.

So, honestly, shoot me for asking this, but don't you think it is a little weird taunting people, singling them out for ridicule, and isolating them with disparagement for simply pointing out that it is a little bizarre that, despite all assurances otherwise, you still can't get on? Why should any life-long Hendrix fan, whose only offense is simply being guilty of strangely being pre-empted from Crosstown, have to explain anything in the first place? What is the offense there? I don't get it?

Crosstown is still lacking registration features and graphics from my end.

FYI:

I tried to sign-up with another message board and got this rejection reply similar to the one I got at Crosstown - however with an explanation.

If this was the same rejection I got from Crosstown I apologize (but who could blame me? These auto-rejections are weird and how was I supposed to know? Also, how is this done outside of Crosstown's knowledge?)

The reason was most likely your e-mail address. We have had a major spammer attack, and the perpetrators use free e-mail addresses from AOL, Yahoo, Gmail, and other providers. So, like it says at the top of the registration agreement, we have been blocking e-mail addresses from certain domains. Please re-register with an e-mail address from your ISP or workplace.

I've been trying to get into Crosstown Torrents for the past week. I signed up for an account - and didn't get a confirmation mail. Then I tried to ask about it in the forums but I can't post until I'm confirmed. Then I tried to fill out a contact form to ask for a new confirmation mail and the security boxes aren't working - red X. So that's going nowhere. Then I tried to open another account and try again, but they won't let me. Fuck that place. I guess they don't want any new posters.

I've been having a craving for some Hendrix Band Of Gypsys stuff, so I headed over to CTT for a fix...

In the last couple days, at times I get pages to load just fine, while other times it just won't. Looking at a couple "is it down" type of sites have told me, at times that it was not working, and at other times, it was but it still wouldn't work for me.

Does anyone know if they're actually having some server issues, or something else? Are they on their own server, or do I remember something about them piggybacking off another site somewhere? Am I asking too many questions?

Really, though, what's the deal with CTT?

Like I say, service there has been spotty for a few days, but just there - everywhere else I go online seems fine (and I go to many sites daily). Could their servers be being partially blocked to us here in Canuckistan? Is there some Canadian conspiracy to keep only Jimi Hendrix ROIOs out of Canada? Am I doing something wrong that only CTT is broken just for me but everything else seems to work fine?

Again, am I asking too many questions?:D
