OK, start of last month this guy contacts me out of nowhere, and by nowhere I mean the email didn't come through here, TapeTrader or any other site I use. He emailed another 3 people the same message so he obviously got the addresses off of some trading site or another.

The full content of the email was:
my name is Michelangelo and I'm an italian trader, this is my dvd list
do you wanna trade?

Attatched was a list made up in Microsoft Word. Some pretty good shows there so I asked him which shows of mine he is interested in - presuming that he has surely seen it and hasn't just contacted some random. He comes back with a wish list of 7 shows which would take up 11 discs, along with his address asking me to send them out and get back to him with what I want from him.

Usually I'm fine with just sending at the same time, but the whole email out of nowhere, coupled with him asking me to send his discs before he even knew which shows he was trading for got me a little wary, so I emailed him back with the shows I would like and asked him to send his first, that I would stay in touch, etc.

Over a month has passed and I have had no further contact and no discs have arrived. I think I had a lucky escape here. I cant find his name on any trading sites so he obviously uses a totally different username but I thought I should post what I know here just in case it is this site he is using to try to set up trades.

That same thing happend to me
He came out nowhere...we did trade
and he did sent 1st--his media was
horrible all differnt brands etc
along with the quality (VHS transfers)
of a 3rd generation just terrible and one the discs
was the wrong one

I give him credit he did came through
What I learned from this ...

If I have to take chances lets keep them to a minimum
(small trades only)

just send what you have burned today. dont worry about the rest of them. on the address issue. its the right address all right . you probably wrote it down wrong. the best way to do that is to copy and paste it into wordpad and then print it out so there are no mistakes. talk to you later.

dave..

i just got them last thursday. july 23rd:hmm:

Quick update:

3 months later, and after not even a reply confirming that our trade was going ahead in the first place after I sent him a list of what I wanted, he has finally sent a load of shows. 1 of them is an official release but they all work fine.

I will change what I originally posted and agree with Joe & Dave above...Not a rip off, just very, VERY slow, coupled (in my case) with no communications whatsoever.

People with no communication are just as bad. They keep you tense especially if one has posted at once, hoping the other side would have done the same. I mean would it take the individual a lot of his time to write a few lines saying that he has recieved his stuff or that he has not yet finished copying etc. I mean being good traders they should keep good communication also. :disbelief
