View Full Version : Player/burner program suggestions?

For years I used MusicMatch Plus (later turned into Yahoo Musicmatch Jukebox Plus) to play and to burn audio torrents (the Yahoo even decoded Flac files automatically). Alas, Dell technicians reformatted my hard drive deleting my programs and data. Afterward I found out MusicMatch is no more and the available versions are not Vista-compatible (even though I used it with Vista the past two years).

I am using the Windows Media Player but it is so clumsy it can be only a short-term solution.

What player/burner program is my best alternative now?

(While I'm asking, I had a great DVD burning software program recommended to me here a few years back and I want to get it again but I cannot recall its name. I believe it was French-originated and cost like $25 - any help on this?)

Thanks

I hear ya on WMP. Not a fan.

Never used an all-in-one kinda software like you seem to be looking for.

Play with foobar.

Burn with NERO.*

I'm old & set in my ways.

look up
IMGburn, burrrn (freeware for burning)

foobar2000 (freeware player + audio swiss army knife)

or winamp player recommended for fanboys only, 2.x version if you're hardcore ;)

After being frustrated by burning 3 discs in Data rather than audio on WMP, and hating the extra steps of decoding FLAC and deleting the FLAC files before I could burn, I found a Yahoo Jukebox free download that will download on Vista. It is not the PLUS version but at this point who carses. Anyone wanting to try MusicMatch on Vista -here's a link that'll work:

I still would like the name of the DVD burning software I used. IMGBurn works fine, but the other allows me to watch the video while I burn copies - a nice feature.

O.K. so I HAVE to ask.....what's wrong with NERO?

In computing, the second-system effect or sometimes the second-system syndrome refers to the tendency, when following on from a relatively small, elegant, and successful system, to design the successor as an elephantine, feature-laden monstrosity.

also
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_bloat (Nero & Vista are the two examples here ;) )

Imgburn loads faster, and at 1.9MB also downloads faster. Works equal or better than Nero imo. Nero is $85.99 & 80+MB of crap I don't use.

ps the French prog is called "Ones" ... I have heard great things about this one as well.

Nero still gets the job done, it was actually the best around 5yrs back (not anymore tho)

you're welcome!

burrrn is also great for burning FLAC directly without first decoding to wav

be sure to verify your stuff you burn while watching video... on older computers this can ruin the burn, but on a modern computer it should work.

musicmatch on vista  not my style, brother! to each their own ;)
