I've tried a couple of times to burn the Gov't Mule show to DVD. It's a big file and made for a dual layer disc. It's getting kind of expensive with the DVD9 price tag.
Here's what I get with Nero. See error further below.

I only use Nero to burn data DVDs only, not for videos.

For video, I use ImgBurn (imgburn.com).

It's a free download, and rarely have a problem with it.

Here's a thread to help guide you on burning a DVD9:

I've found Nero likes to balk at burning DVDs. I second ImgBurn.

I've also read somewhere (I think the ImgBurn forum) that Verbatim makes the best dual-layer DVDs. Might be a bit more expensive but less coasters.

Oh, and a decent DVD write drive doesn't hurt either.

Only for people with an old burner, cheap discs, and a crappy player. How many coasters/play back issues have you had with those Zero shows?

Well I have a "Samung TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182M SB00" too.
Will that work any better?
Both says DVD+R DL on the front.

the last zero show you mention pauses/stops around the time of the layer switch.....
is this because of my burner, mac, DVD player, i dont know and i dont give a fuck. the issue is not present with dvd5... it seems much more stable for the general public. why make a dvd9 when we know all these problems(how many threads now)are present. whats wrong with 2 dvd5s that will work for alot more people with a lot less problems.

I have zero issues burning them or watching them on my player. If you have issues with dual layers, what will you do when blu-ray's are more common?

My comments are directed at you since you make it a point to whine about dvd9's in every thread that is started in technobabble. Had the OP spent the time using the search function instead of starting yet another thread, they would have found the likely solution. Nero notoriously has issues with dual layers...thus, Get ONES. After that it's usually a cheap disc issue. If it still doesn't work, burner or player.

How many threads/comments are there about "I can't deal with PAL, can this be in NTSC?"
What's the answer to that...buy a new player that supports PAL. This is the same thing.

first your only covering half of the problem...what should mac users do?

and right buy a new DVD player....im gonna do it..cause i wanna watch pal on my tv. so the same goes for the computer...if the burner say DVD DL and your running it internal or through firewire and i still does not work...time to upgrade.....(unless your computer is brand spankin new) seems to me the computer cant stream 8 gigs of music/video for as long as i take to finish the burn.........and how can this be fix'd?

my comment might seem not cool or mean spirited but im being honest.....
lets see what this lad comes up with for solution......

Mac users can use Toast. That's what I've used and it's worked fine for me (for the ten or so DLs I've burned). I did have one problem DVD9 and so I just created an image file first and then burned it.

i use toast as well, but there is nothing that is tried and true every time.(except 2 DVD5's)
i can burn them but not everytime.....you know what im getting off track, i dont care....
im just tring to give this guy(not schome) some help with his problem buy telling him that we have all been thru this before and here is what weve noticed....

I've had problems before burning DVD5s also. It isn't that just DVD9s can have problems - all of them can have problems. The thing is, you worry about it more when you are paying over $1 per DVD9 disc rather than the $0.25 for a DVD5.

Because the taper or person doing the work wants it that way. The tapers didn't tape this for "you", they taped it for themselves & could care less whether or not you have the ability to burn a DVD9.

I dont burn DVD's anymore. There are many $100 devices that will play/upscale these videos to your television.
if you break a show into 2 or 3 pieces - then you have to start/stop/start two or three times (no matter what - burn a disc or not)
One big show means click and play..straight through.

DVDFab will break a larger video into multiple dvd5 discs (with menu!).

I once scratched a DVD-R. I put it through a CD scratch cleaner and it made it worse. I ended up having to re-burn, but I have a few huge spindles anyways  Got a few coasters with the cheap-o ones.

Check your owner's manual for the burner ---- most will give recommedations on what type of media works best with the unit. Sometimes, they'll update what will work on the website. Media....I'm using a Lite-On burner(built like a tank!) and the only media I've had trouble with is Memorex....both single and dual layer. DL - TDK +R DL's have been working fine, despite burning at ONLY 2.4x.

Is everything else working fine burning wise? If so, then the media is the problem, not your burner. Machines are peculiar sometimes!

Homebrew101

it might also help to check for any firmware updates for your burners, this some times help it handle different media brands

To wake this thread again...

You think I get these errors because of burner not comp. w the DVD-discs

or

the Burner is too old and I need a better?

Homebrew101
2009-05-11, 10:21 AM
I don't see that you ever posted what brand of DL media you are using but that is often a major problem.

Another problem I have had is when the show I want to burn is an ISO file. For some reason those burns seem to freeze at the layer-break - I always have to extract the dvd files from that using ISOBuster and then using Verbatim DL discs I'm good to go.
