View Full Version : Must audio-seeds be split?

Hi,
I have some audio stuff I'd like to post, in the form of a FLAC-file and a CUE-file. Perfect for burning onto CDR or mount in DeamonTools.
Is this ok to post, or must I split the file? :hmm:
(The CUE-file is pretty handy since I then can make negative times in the beginning of tracks, before the music starts.)

Yes, you may post it as a single flac file with a cue sheet. We would rather they be split (cuz a bunch of people are gonna ask what the h*ll to do with that cue sheet!), but there isn't anything in the rules that say it must be.

However, it would be just as easy to split the file with CDWave, which is shareware.

Well, I could always include a folder with split mp3s as an optional download with the FLAC/CUE.

It makes it annoying if you want to download a single track in order to test sound quality or for possible lossy sourcing.

the split mp3s will not be allowed here. I think most people here would want it split. Preferably with CDwave or the likes that splits on sector boundaries.

Why would anyone want split mp3s, even if they were allowed? :hmm:
I'd rather have split tracks seeded, as would most people I think. I also think it should be in the seeding rules that shows must be tracked.
I also think samples should be mandatory, dammit!

Please split the tracks before you seed it. Because some of the people who download it will split it. Then those people might re-upload in different places, and then there are multiple versions of the same sources slightly tracked differently.
Therefore, please split the tracks.

Well, it was too late. I had already posted this thread (http://www.thetradersden.org/forums/showthread.php?t=69701).
I'll take it into consideration next time I'm about to post audio, or perhaps I won't post audio at all. I mostly deal with video, anyway. I'm not a big fan of split FLACs when one has a properly made CUE-file, but I understand your views.
Ps.
The thing is that with a cue-sheet the cutting can be made like this:
Track N stops. Track N+1 starts index 0, with negative time, like -00:01:00. Artist talks. Audience noise etc. Track N+1 reaches index 1 at 00:00:00 and the music starts. This means that if track N+1 is selected on the cd-player, even if it lacks index capacity, it WILL start the playback at index 1, at 00:00:00.
When splitting one would want it:
Music of Track N ends, artist talks. Audience noise etc. <Split> Music of Track N+1 starts.
No#1 is a much more beautiful solution, but I think you might be right about that people will split it themselves. :( I might have a look at CDwav. Perhaps I should include a batch-file with the seeds that transforms the splits into one single FLAC. ;)
