this was posted on Dime:

Tue 3rd May, 2005

(23:11 GMT) According to a letter etree.org received from legal representatives of the Dave Matthews Band, sharing unofficially recorded DMB shows with BitTorrent doesn't violate their taping/trading policy. We've removed DMB from our NAB list

does this now apply here as well?

DMB was never not allowed here.

Didn't mean to imply that it was... (actually by using the word 'now' I was implying that they weren't allowed 'before'..) :)

Over on bt.etree.org someone posted the following:

http://bt.etree.org/pic/dmb-letter.jpg

and I was just wondering if the DMB 'ban' on this site was based on legal issues or personal ones. Also just wanted to make you aware, that if it WAS based on legal issues, that the letter might remove those barriers from allowing those shows to be posted. I know dmb was big on the Groove and it's my understanding that this site was a spinoff of that one, so I figured it was worth putting on the table.

Just asking...

edit: After reading the Band Restriction policy on the FAQ one would never know that DMB was a no no... is there a list somewher else?

DMB has always been allowed here. The Band Restriction Policy is our list.

If you do a search, you'll see a few shows here from them.

Sorry about that, missed your double negative above.

Thanks!

The whole DMB/etree snafu was based on DMB being confused about what etree is. In other words, it was a mistake.

DMB's trading policies are here:

http://www.davematthewsband.com/news/news_archive.asp# (click on the "legal" link and look for the popup window).

You can decide for yourself whether TTD complies with the policies.

I think the absence of DMB is more a matter of taste than policy. And since his name doesn't include the word "Pink" or "Led", well........

A dedicated dmb torrent site and etree might have something to do with it.
