DAT clone?

What exactly does this mean? I used to see it on snail mail lists. Does it mean the trade went DAT Master > DAT 1st gen dubbed on a DAT deck > trade?

thanks. I'm thinking of upgrading to a SonyTCD-D8. I don't have a DAT deck, but I think I can transfer DAT > Hard drive via a 1/8in cable.

you'll also need a soundcard with digital in that matches... m-audio audiophile 2496 (coax) or perhaps edirol 1a-uex for s/pdif (1/8" light pipe).
