WMedia player requires a $ plugin to play a DVD, or installed software like Cyberlink or WinDVD. I have never used winamp but perhaps there is also some plugin to play a DVD, at least in can open some other types of video files.

Download free and very light Media Player Classic (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Media_Player_Classic.htm) or VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/).

And it's going to be the .vob file that actually holds the video data. The .vts just holds metadata. Together they make a full DVD.
