I'd like to rip my CD collection to FLAC files and be 100% sure I've
created perfect bit-for-bit copies. How would you guys do this? I've read that every FLAC file contains a checksum. Maybe that would help? Maybe musicbrainz could help with this?

extracting [aka ripping] from Audio CDRs:

programs to compress to flac:

once you've extracted & converted the wavs to flac, you then create a checksum of the flac files, as well as the wavs if you want...more on checksums:

Thanks for the info. I'm mainly interested in verifying my rips match bit-for-bit, even if I didn't rip it myself. Is there an online database I can use for this? Can musicbrainz help?

For the music traded here we rely on the checksum provided by the member who creates the torrent for the show, if you are ripping commercial CDs you may have to contact the people who created them. Google EAC and AccurateRip
