On windows 2000...

i add my .wavs to flac.
hit fingerprint, browse to directory, save text file.
finish encodeing to flac.

when i open the .txt file (fingerprint)
it is always empty.

any help appreciated.

you have to add FLACs to FLAC Frontend to get a fingerprint, not .wav's

encode the .wav's to FLAC first. After that's done, add the FLACs to FLAC frontend, then hit fingerprint.

ok, so there is no verification file generated or needed for the
.wav > .flac encode process?

You should enable 'verify' in FLAC Frontend when encoding .wav's. After each .wav is encoded it will say 'verify OK' in the command prompt window. If they all say 'verify OK' then it was successful. You could even test the FLACs with the 'test' function after encoding just to make sure.

The only reasons off the top of my head that a .wav > FLAC > .wav conversion won't match the original .wav's is if you fixed sector boundary errors with FLAC Frontend or if there were non-canonical headers (these will be stripped automatically by FLAC Frontend).

you could generate st5 using shntool/TLH from the wav files and while the formatting is a little different the 32 character hash will match up with FFP/st5 from the resulting flac set unless there were SBEs corrected. st5 also won't be altered by any changes to the header data or even lossless format for that matter.

but what Tubular suggests is secure enough imo, enable verify & check fix SBEs.
