Firewall/Port Forward Question

Sorry if this has been answered before.

I think I'm firewalled. My connection is a wifi connection via some unknown wireless server/router. I've checked canyouseeme.org and it looks like I'm firewalled because it can't "see me". I'm using ABC [Yet Another Bittorrent Client] 3.1. I can't set up the router, because I don't have access to it.

Once a torrent file completes downloading, it stops seeding. I have ABC set up to upload infinitely, so that's not the problem. I've tried opening the port that ABC is currently using (under Preferences/Network). I've also tried going to Preferences/Network/Advanced and entering my IP Address under "Local IP". I've tried setting up my Windows Firewall to open the ABC port and/or allow ABC to bypass the Windows Firewall. I've even tried shutting off my Windows Firewall but to no avail.

Any suggestions? Is this a situation where there's nothing I can do about it?

If you don't have access to the router, then you will not be able to forward your ports to become 'unfirewalled'.

If you are getting abruptly cut-off as soon as you finish your download, one thing you can do is prolong the time that it takes to download the show - and thus give yourself more time to be uploading the show. Simply set a low speed allowed for downloading. If you normally get speeds of 300 down, then cap your speed around 50 down and then it will take 6 times longer to download BUT it will also upload for 6 times longer. And, besides, if you are downloading overnight, who cares if it takes 1 hour or 6 hours to download the show? It will still be waiting there for you in the morning.

Thanks for the excellent answer. That's a great idea about limiting my download speed to prolong the upload. I hadn't thought of that option. Perhaps I could stop the DL side of my torrents around 99% too.

Anyone have any info on webseeding? That seems like it may be an option also.
