10. No Transcoded or Re-Encoded DVDs are allowed.
We do not allow any DVDs to be seeded that have been recompressed in any way. This includes any DVD9>DVD5 or PAL>NTSC or NTSC>PAL, MPEG-2 > remaster > MPEG-2. Please seed the DVDs in the original released form.

It looks like Drewa311 is just splitting a DVD9 into 2 DVD5. This can be done without re-encoding and without quality loss. Is re-authoring DVDs permitted? (I couldn't find any mention of it in the Video Seeding Rules)

If the person who taped & transfered this wanted it split on 2 single layers, they would have authored it that way.

actually the 2 tapers both have split versions because DVD9s suck

taperguy27 (thank you) captured masters and authored the dvds for us, in his choice of format, dvd9s are a pain and we have all had troubles with our DL versions but none with our split. I appreciate your help schome, i would have been pissed had i made a setlist and a text file. I just wanted to share to the maximum amount of people, in the most stable form.

Just curious Drew, but why don't you like DVD9s? Is it that you don't have a burner yet for one or that you would just rather have two single discs of the show? I've only downloaded probably less than ten DVD9s, but I haven't had any problems yet (except for the first one and I think it was a Toast issue that I got around by making an iso first) and I prefer them since I don't have to worry about keeping the two discs together and I don't have to switch discs in the middle of the show.

if the person who originally authored it doesn't mind, why wouldn't we allow a split? especially if its just re-authored and not re-encoded

people re-author SA DVDs and seed em here all the time [most likely re-encoded as well]...
also, we allow remasters which i'm sure the taper wasn't asked, and we allow DVDs where the authorer uses an audio source without asking the taper, so why wouldn't we allow a DVD9 split to 2 DVD5s?

Drewa311 You are as big a dumbass, as I was last year. All new DVD players play DVD9's. I bought a Sony $120.00 upconverting DVD with optical out at Target. Buy a new DVD player. If you don't have an upconverting DVD player you will need one in the near future. DVD5's look like shit on a HDTV, if you don't have a upconverting DVDplayer. All of your store bought DVD's don't even look good without in upconverter on an HDTV.

I assume you don't have an HD TV, but you will in the next year and a half or you are going to buy a converter to play HD on an SD TV. There will be no SD broadcasts.

OK, and the last topic is, I searched your name on here. It looks like you have seeded one show. I assume you are not submitting any of your own video. I searched and I saw one sublime video, that was somebody elses video and that is it.

It is about 40% less work to make one DVD as opposed to two. Not to mention you don't have to change DVD's in the middle of a show. It is nice of you to want every one to work harder for you.

Get a new DVD Player and stop bitching.

QUESS WHAT? DVD9s SUCK AND SO DO YOU

i will NEVER support dvd9

reasons 1. the price
2. Friends who i let barrow dvds
3. instable burn process
4. instable read process
5. TYs -rs are $.40
6. I can split dvd9>dvd5 with no loss of quality
7. the technology hasnt moved on, 2 years ago i was like, "this will be cool when they are as cheap as dvds, i don't think they have gotten cheaper at all.

.80 for 2 dvds and 20 min to spilt and having to switch the disc is worth me keeping more than $1 per burn.Like i said, my DL copies are tweaky, why in the world would i want to post them here in DL, MAYBE if i have access to the encoded masters from taperguy27, but i bet they are long gone.

and i have filmed a few shows that have ended up on here 2 buckethead shows and one tea leaf green. Im not a quality snob like tons of people here, im glad to have media at all. Then again I trade in way different ways than many people here. Can you imagine house head who have NO CLUE WHAT .FLAC is and are just super super hyped to find out that i have a .mp3 version of one of their favorite old school mixtape. Im perfectly content with my set-up, and i think its whack that people now wont be able to see this gem.

WHAT HE SAID

no loss of quality, so why does it matter to TTDers?

anyhow, its an interesting discussion pls carry on...

Exactly. This site is geared towards hard core videofiles, NOT towards leeches. It sounds like all you're concerned with is how many people download it?
There are plenty of sites who don't care what you do with a disc before you seed it. We do.

Seed the DVD9, then let the leeches do whatever they want with the disc, shrink it, split, re-encode, whatever (like you do on each one you download).

You spent $20-30 for the ticket, $6-9 for miniDV tapes to record it but $2 for a dual blank is TOO much money? :hmm:

Like i said, my DL copies are tweaky,
That's your issue, not the rest of ours. Like Lynne said, she doesn't have problems burning/playing them, nor do I or most of the others who download them.

Oh no doubt, and i love the quality that comes out of the site.

its just that my trading/collecting music goes far far beyond the limitations set here
I LOVE HOUSE MUSIC
and if i collected only lossless house sets id have like 4 shows

to me its not quality its quantity

Let me give you an example

Farley Jackmaster Funk is one of my favorite artists, i took all 40 of his .RM streams and ripped them to .mp3

lineage goes something like this

Chicago radio circa '82-'90>random Cassette tape>computer(after 20 years of use)>website .RM>My computer>.mp3

hows that for lossless, im just happy to have they media at all
sure it would be dope if it were lossless, but i take what i can get.

the same goes with all the hip-hop I trade

I wish house/hip-hop heads were as smart and willing to produce quality as most people on here, but they simply are a different breed.

just wait is 20 years when some guy finds a long lost uncirculated GD VHS all the people so happy they even have an addition to their collection, quality aside

you got it!

as i said

all my friends i would want to hook up

and i never personally spent a dime taping
was always just kinda part of the crew, running a cam

DVD9s SUCK

ill download em, and split em all day if the video is good

If my copies and 2 other tapers copies are tweaky, its not just my problem!

it may be the brand of DLs, memorex i think, or the original burner, our copies are simply NOT STABLE

Tubular
2007-11-30, 01:52 PM
Memorex sucks, esp. for dual layer I think. Verbatim DVD+R DL are the best. DVD-R DL of any brand aren't very good if I recall correctly.

U2Lynne
2007-11-30, 02:01 PM
Well, OK Drew, you don't like DL discs for your own reasons. I can understand that. But, can you understand that if the author chose to author and release a show as a DL disc that it should only be shared that way? That's all we are saying. Go ahead and split it for your own uses, but if you share it here, it should be shared in the original format that the author intended.

Drewa311
2007-11-30, 02:38 PM
I see the point with that, my justification was esp. with being a new uploader is to upload the most stable form of the video, had we known DLs were going to give us so much trouble we would have requested taperguy27(still many many thanks) author this show as 3 dvd5s. While i know for certain that many shows on here probably have been in many formats before upped here(is there a way to tell?) I figured if my DL copies are fucked, why would i even think using them to share with.

Drewa311
2007-11-30, 02:42 PM
im speaking in the royal "we"

I was going to tape both nights of this show

ended up only being 1 night

but i went to bonnaroo and made a bunch of money, a friend filled in for me

this project is AMAZING though, best buckethead boot i have

big thanks to everyone involved, and esp. buckethead for raging so hard for the cameras.

DVD9s don't suck. DVD9's are not unstable. Bad media is unstable not matter what format. I think you should be saying Memorex SUCKS. because it does.

DVDs should be shared in the format the author intended. If you don't like that format, that is fine. Don't assume others are the same as yourself.

lick my balls

dvd9s SUCK

too expensive, haven't gotten to much cheaper

burn speeds suck

i also question the longevity and durability of dvd9s

i hope every dvd9 everyone ever burned gets rotted out, i would pick 2 shitty no name dvd-r's over one 5$ high quality dvd9 any day. while its not the opinion of most media yuppies on ttd, i know its the only efficient way of trading dvds for me and for many others who cant afford dvd9 nor have a desire to fit twice the media on one disc. If it were like 20x the data id be down, which in 10 years it will be, as of now 8.75 GB dvds are not efficient

and your a retard because if i made you copies of my buckethead dvd9s>dvd9 youd be pissed cause they would fuck up, and you would ask for a new trade or working discs,RIGHT?

pawel

I agree that DVD9 is not good. I author a lot, and really missing rewritable DVD9 media to check if a DVD works before making a final version: correct layer break, chapter links etc. On a PC DVD works a bit differently than on a standalone player thus sometimes authoring error cannot be found on a computer.

I enjoy hitting burn and not have to go change out discs twice. I also enjoy watching a disc without having to change a disc. My time is worth the extra .20 to burn it once.

If you don't like DVD9s don't download them. If you won't to break DVD9s into two DVD5s for trading, go right ahead. Nobody is going to stop you.

You do realize, if there were something actually wrong with the data on the dvd9, your splitting it would not fix it?

I shrink mine to DVD5 to burn a test copy. That doesn't test layer break but that is a minor annoyance to me anyway. Are you on a PC or mac? What authoring program do you use?

PC; I use mostly Maestro, and sometimes DVD-Lab Pro. Both programs work perfectly (as yet), and checking a disc I don't look for a software error but rather mine - like wrong link, button navigation, script error and such.

Your suggestion to shrink to DVD5 is good one, thanks, but I'll still miss rewritable or cheaper DVD9 discs.

i pretty much author stuff......watch it.....and then shelf it so my memory is a little sketchy on this one. did i do it on two d9's? or a standard dvd and one d9? just trying to remember. at anyrate, the media that was authored & burned on the dual layer disc doesn't change at all when you split. it is still the same data.

personally i don't care if you split it into 10 discs. it just kind of sucks cause my buddy spent a lot of time on the menus and i spent a lot of time mixing the show. i'm assuming when you split it that wiped out our main menu, setlist, and credits page. still you guys filmed it so do with it as you choose, no worries.

it is a bad ass video though!

Correct, the menu's will be gone.

I wonder if Drew ever got it...that there's absolutely nothing wrong with the DVD9 he has or the data on it. If there were, splitting it would not fix the problem he's having. The problem is his dvd player, but there's nothing wrong with the data or the disc itself.
