Question: I recorded a Wilco show from NPR.org - I'm guessing this is copyrighted and cannot be shared?

You recorded it off one of their radio stations (this is an FM broadcast you captured?) or you captured the stream from their website (this is a webcast)?

I recorded it off of their webcast.

12. Webcast rips are not permitted on The Traders' Den.
At the current time, webcasts are not held to any reasonable quality standards. We are aware that there are some nice sounding webcasts available in some locations, but at this point it would be a slippery slope to try to regulate what separates quality from not quality in the webcast arena.

I'm not asking if the webcast is allowed on Trader's Den per se, just if its illegal to torrent them. I understand the Trader's Den not being able to regulate how one of these shows is recorded.

IMO - its a safe assumption in this day and age that anthing broadcasted on radio or webcast is copyrighted!

Well, I've seen them torrented before. I really don't know if it is illegal or not. I think you really need to ask someone on the site you want to torrent them on if they will allow them or what their opinion is on whether they are illegal or not.

So long as it has never been for sale it should be okay to torrent on a site that allows webcasts. The #1 thing sites like TTD are on the lookout for is competing with official releases. Since we don't allow webcasts anyways, you should probably check with EZT.

Thanks for your replies, guess I will just keep the show to myself.

For any Wilco fans, make sure you check out www.npr.org, there is a great show from Washington D.C. :D

NPR.org has some awesome webcasts arechived on their site. Unfortunately, they only use 48 Kbps (or lower for older ones) for their streams, so the sound quality of what they offers i well below "quality".

As for the legality, check the NPR website for that entry to see if they sell CDs of that show. You'll find that a good deal of them actually have CDs for sale. These, I would suggest not seeding. For stuff that you can't buy, seed away...assuming you have an original FM capture.

I couldn't find the CD for sale at the time I recorded it. The show sounds great, other then the instruments could have been mixed better. I figured after taking the time to record it and seperate all the tracks I could spare others the time.

Thanks again for everyone's replies.
