would shakespeare label a white inkjet printable cd/dvd containing his only copy of troilus and cressida with a cd marker?

I haven't had any problems with writing on my discs with Sharpies. I also keep backups of everything.

they also make sharpies that are made to write on cds. I guess the die is different.

simple solution is to only write on the clear inner circle. if leaching does occur
it doesnt touch the data.

its also easy to remove a messy or incorrect label with some rubbing alc

they also make sharpies that are made to write on cds. I guess the die is different.I think the primary difference is the writing on the outside of the pen. I've been writing on my CD-Rs with Sharpies for ten years and I've never had a problem.

this has come up a few times before... there's a FAQ somewhere on the Sharpie site where they say that normal sharpies are fine for writing on cds, been doing it for years myself with no problems. of course when I'm mail trading I don't write on the disc since there's a lot of traders who never do that or want to write in their own style and format on the discs.

My handwriting is so terrible that I only inflict it on my friends. :D For trades, I prefer not to write on the disc anywhere -- inside ring included -- and instead either write on the tyvek sleeve or include a slip of paper inside the sleeve to I.D. the disc.

But for my own discs, I always write on the disc and have never had any problems. Even if I get a disc that's labeled on the inner ring, I usually write on the disc as well, so I can read it even if it's sitting on something that's colored dark.

I write on my discs only for personal use. When trading or making discs for friends I write on the sleeve.

This has nothing to do with facts about sharpies but the anal preferences of traders. :D

I write on my personal discs with Sharpies. Never had a problem. Been doing it for 6 years. Never write on discs I am trading out, but I do write on discs I burn for friends.

I just started not writing on them in April, and keeping them in plastic sleeves & writing on the sleeves. Gets a little time consuming when I take alot out to burn, because I never put them back into the sleeve right away. :nono:
