lots of new gui improvements :) :) Get it while its hot :bang:

# 2005-03-07: 4.0.0 is now available.
Changes since the last stable release:

* All new queue-based user interface
* Many options are now modifiable from the interface, including upload rate
* Lots of other interface improvements
* Extra stats are visible, for those who like it
* Remembers what it was doing across restarts
* New .torrent maker "btmaketorrentgui" replaces "btcompletedir"
* Better performance, as always
* License has changed to the BitTorrent Open Source License
* Torrent fields are correctly created and interpreted as utf8
* Too many little things to list

A few technical notes, for those interested:

* Single port: launchmany can seed and client can download many files from a single port and thread
* Interface now uses GTK instead of wxWidgets
* BitTorrent packets are marked as bulk data to make traffic shaping easier

Too bad they didn't upgrade the mac client too. :(

So do we need (should we...) update this if we're using say Azureus or some other client?

Nope

somebody opine whether it's better than BitTornado, since they (BTor) haven't updated their GUI yet?

I think it is better than BitTornado personally. It's got a primitive queueing function kinda like Azureus or comet or torrentstorm. This is a big thing for me. It doesn't slow you computer down like java apps, ie Azureus. Try it and see if you like it. It only takes maybe 5 seconds to install it and uninstall it.

I'm gonna try it. Thanks for the headsup!

hmm... maybe I'm missing something but I can't seem to get it to point to the folder I want it to, plus while I'm trying to get used to the gui I'm being accosted by nagware. With all due respect to Bram, I'll continue to use TorrentStorm and it's cousin BitTornado as a backup for the time being.

Five I haven't completely tested it but I thought it might be an improvement for the average torrent user still on the older versions. I clicked on the torrent file I had already started and it automatically paths directories and asks if you want to continue for me. I also have not seen a single piece of nagware or advertising whatsoever. When you install it has a popup for donating to Bram, but that's it.. nothing after the install. what kind of nagware are you seeing on your side?

It was asking if I've donated... I click "no" then it gives me a popup with firefox. I was struggling to seed a torrent with it. Started a torrent, it wanted to put it on my desktop instead of asking me where to save it. So I have to delete that folder, close the client and restart it... another "have you donated"... I figure out that I have to get the old torrent out of the queue, then I find the setting to make it ask me where the files associated with my torrent are. I point it to the folder, it opens the folder... I try starting it, it creates a new folder within that folder. So I delete it again, open the client again, tell it I haven't donated again, then just point it to C:/ (the dir containing the folder I want to point to). That didn't work either. Then I uninstalled it. I dunno, maybe I'm a little slow on the uptake but I've tried at least 5 clients and this is the only time I've been this confused.

wow that sucks.. I've never tried to make a torrent with it. I was excited that it got the makeatorrent functionality.. I've only used it to download so far. and it doesn't have those popups. I've tested it on Firefox and IE. I will continue to experiment with it, including a torrent I'm looking at seeding next week, and let you know if I discover something.

I'll try it again sometime. For the record, I wasn't making a torrent, I was just trying to seed (starting at 100%).

:lol

If you click "yes" I wonder if it goes away?

Five, if it's like the older versions, it will go away if you click "yes."

Too bad they didn't upgrade the mac client too. :(

you'd think they'd have one since on the front page it says "Old OS X Client" like there's a new one
