View Full Version : suddenly cannot connect from home, still can from work

Yesterday (Sunday) morning, the site appeared to go down. I was in, tried to open a thread and could not, then could not access any pages all day. I only had problems with TDD.

Today I see the site back up, but when connecting remotely to my home pc, it still cannot see TDD?!?

I have tried old bookmarks, as well as links I emailed (which I do all the time with no problem).

I can't figure out why suddenly I cannot connect from that pc. For that matter, another pc on my home network also will not connect, so it appears to be my IP address being blocked by TDD, but I didn't think TDD blocked IP addresses.

Any idea what might be causing my connection problem?

TTD has no blocked IP's according to Lynne.

Are you having any problems with other sites or just this one?

Just this one. Kind of weird.

I tried clearing my cache, not that it should have mattered.

If you only tried connecting a few times during the same short time period, then it is possible you hit during a high traffic time when access is difficult. If you tried various times through out the day and had this problem then it is indeed weird.

I can get in with no problem from work, but not from home. It is not a traffic issue.

Furthermore, my torrents that are already loaded in my client cannot connect either.

Have you tried pinging the site? Or doing a trace? You are the second person to say this today, so obviously something is up. If you do a trace and post the results here, that may help me when I go and talk to our host about it.

http://network-tools.com/default.asp?prog=trace&host=www.thetradersden.org

edit: If you can perform that trace at home and then send me the results: [email protected] Thanks!

I need you to do the trace from your home computer, because the route is probably different and somewhere along the line it is 'broken' and so I need to see where that is.

That trace was from home. I am logged on to my home home computer. What I ran was as if I was sitting at my home pc. I copied the link into a browser on my home pc.

Likewise, I tried pinging on the home pc. I can ping you from work with no problem.

Here is the trace from work:

FWIW, I added the DNS server addresses that we use at work to the list that I use at home, but that did not resolve anything.

One other thought.... can you get your home IP addy and send it to me? We actually do have some IPs blocked because of repeated spamming (I forgot about those). So, if you can get your home IP, then I can check.

Try clearing your cookies? Is there anyway you can post the whole error you are seeing?

Also, make sure your bittorrent client is playing nicely and allowing the tracker to set the announce interval which is somewhere around 33 minutes. If you are pounding the tracker, you may get caught in our banned ip list since whoever was doing the dos attack two weeks ago tried again today.
