I am trying to port forward. It tells me to open bittorent but the screen it shows I should be seeing will not pop up. Is there another program that I can use that is widely used here?

utorrent seems to be the preferred bittorrent client for PC users, with Azureus coming up second.

Maybe I'm missing something common sense here...what is "it" (as in "It tells me to open bittorent")? If it's a website you're following directions from, post the link and maybe someone can guide you from that. Or maybe you can post what the picture is that you're looking at and someone will recognize it.

BTW, I use BitTornado. Very simple interface, however it does open a separate window for each torrent so if you're a heavy user your screen will get filled up with windows.
