View Full Version : Burner not reading discs
Hi
After a long absense from dl music I am back online. I really dig bit torrents, much better than the old school cute ftp bussiness. Now I've finally figured out why I show up as a leach and will fix that shortly.
My problem is that my burner is no longer reading blank disics. Awh crap it's not reading ANY discs!
I think the problem started when I downloaded Feurio...at least that was when the burner started not reading discs, I thought it was feurio so I d/l EAC, still no good. Is it possible that I selected something I shouldn't have when I installed feurio?

If you are using Windows 2000/XP then use the "system restore" feature to go back to the pre-feurio install and try to read discs (make a restore point of your current load before hand so you can return to it if that doesn't work). If that doesn't work then try a different burner/reader. I had a Plextor drive with a shitload of hours on it that eventually stopped reading discs it burned and most commercial cds/dvds. Sometimes drives just die because they have reached end of life. Good luck. Let me know if this helps.

possessed comments are quite good.
as well I would try disconnecting the drive and restarting the computer, then turning it off, connecting the drive back up again and then seeing what it does. That tends to wake them up some times.
Check your codecs and install the latest ones. I hada friend's drive seemingly die on him and behave like yours is, but I installed fresh codecs and off it went.
The bad news is that when it starts to behave like this it most likely means that it is getting ready to go to god. I have replaced two drives who began behaving like this and then stopped altogether.

All of our recommendations are nice but between you and me, I agree with the above statement.
Always remember www.newegg.com for your computing needs.
THANKS FOR THE REPLIES :thumbsup
I tried the system restore...no luck.
Not long after installing fuerio I rolled back windows media player from 11 to 10 so I'll d/l 11 again and see if that was my problem.
As for the burner crapping out on me...it's not quite four months old and only burned about twenty discs, so if it is toast it's warrenty work :D
