Hi, I recently formatted my drive, I was looking for a way to restore my mp3 files from my ipod back to the hard drive. Can anyone suggest a good software program (that is free) which can do this? iTunes just syncs the device, i'm looking for software that extracts it from the device. Thanks.

Personally, I've always used yamipod for this task - it's free and works quite well.

You don't need any programs to do it if you want to rip your whole ipod. All you need to do is go to your iPod from my computer and show hidden files and folders. (Tools, View, View Hidden Files and Folders.) From there, click on the previously hidden iPod Control folder and then the music folder. There you'll find 50 folders with the music on them. The file names will look weird but they'll have a normal track name when you play them.

I'm sorry five. I just can't seem to keep up. I should consult my son before I post.
