Video MD5 fails (what to do)

OK... This may be a stupid question, but I just want to make sure I handle it correctly. I am very familar with music trading and quality standards, but am new to the world of video trading and fairy new to BT.

Anyway, I just downloaded a video and when I run the MD5 check, two files fail. My question is, what is the standard way to hadle this both with video and with BT. I immediatly stopped seeding the BT as I figured if people download from me, they will get the "bad" files and just keep spreading it around (is this true?).

In terms of how to fix it, I would assume that the best thing would be to delete the files and restart my torrent (which I would hope would start to download just what I need).

Is this the proper procedure or is there a way just to "fix" my bad files without deleting and re-downloading.

I would post in the thread and see if this has happened to anyone else. It's always good to find that out.

But, yeah, I would rename the bad files (don't throw them out yet) and then restart your download and get them again.

Are other people getting the failure? In my experience, an md5 fails only because the seeder screwed up. If you're the only one getting failures, then you may consider something relating to your system.

Thanks for the input... I actually redownloaded the files that failed and they passed the next time (so it must have just been something in my download). I guess my main concern is was that people were not downloading the bad files from me and "spreading" files that did not match the original.

No, you can't screw everyone else up. Each piece of the BitTorrent should come with a hash check, and thus everyone else is doing the check for the original files. I'd say you're OK.

Similar I would have been asked:

What if you manually recheck the hash. Newer versions of bit torrent clients do not check the downloaded part again, if you just restart the program. They just resume from the last "position".
Noticed in the latest releases of Bittornado, Bitcomet.

So chances are high if you just recheck a download, you won´t have to download so much again.
