Lately I have been getting this error message "PMA Update Failure" at the very end of burning a DVD right before the disc is finalized. I have updated all the drivers that I could possibly find but I'm still running into the problem. The drive is a NEC and its a little over a year old.

My other DVD drive which is a Sony burner has also been acting funny by burning a disc correctly but each disc will not read in any of my standalone players which have played everything previously including PAL & NTSC.

Any help would be greatly appreciated because I'm at a loss at this point.

A Googlesearch for the phrase "PMA update failure" yielded postings at several other forums indicating that such an error message is the result of either poor quality media or the need for a firmware update...

Have you started to use a new spool of media lately? Sometimes you just get a bad batch of DVDs (even if they are the same brand that you have always had success with).

edit: I guess Five beat me in posting. :D

It is a spool of Verbatims and I guess that could be the problem since it is fairly new. I've also Googled for hours but have yet to find a definate answer.

sorry if I came off a little harsh, when I googled there was a gazillion results and I didn't really read much of it.

I hope you can get this sorted out

alzeppelin, I would try another type of media (or another spool of the same type) and see if you still have this problem.

It's ok Mr. Five, no worries.

I ordered some Taiyo Yuden made in Japan 8x DVD-Rs so I will give them a try. The more I look into it the more I think it is the media. Verbatim has been running some ridiculous deals over the past year with rebates so I'm afraid they may be trying to unload some below par discs.

Thank you both for your help on this.
