Does anyone know how to convert .mkw files to .wav on a MAC? I tried xAxt with no luck.

The only way is with Virtual PC I'm afraid, unless you can give them to a Windows using friend.

I might have to do that.

Yep, I've always had to send the files over to my PC to convert them.

(Of course, don't forget to bitch at the person for actually seeding in mkw in the first place!)

I'm glad mkw isn't allowed here because that happened several times at STG, then it requires some on to seed it again converted to flac/shn which is annoying because it could have just been seeded in shn/flac in the first place.

I had to set up a PC for my last job if I wanted to work at home. And, now that I do web design out of the house, I really need to be able to check out the websites on both platforms and on several different browsers (thus, I still have a copy of IE :eek2: on both computers even though I use firefox for everyday use). My Mac is my main computer though. :)

Find the person who gave you the .mkw files and beat them with a power bar.

MKW is an excellent compression codec that unfortunately, never caught on.

Michael Weise couldn't find support from the e-tree community during the SHN avalanche that he also supported.

So many people wound up using MKWAct as a SHN frontend that the MKW codec went unused and unappreciated.

From what I am led to believe, Michael has suffered some significant health problems that halted his involvement with lossless compression software.

Thanks for the help. I hijacked my roommate's computer and converted them to .flac

Setting aside that it's completely closed, proprietary and Windows-only, it's also a lot slower and most of the time significantly less efficient than even Shorten. What's so excellent about it, then?

Thanks for sharing all the info on this format. :) I finally found the White Stripes 2002 show in Stuttgart on greengoblin's Hub, but it was in mkw. :hmm: I'd never encountered that format before. It doesn't sound very excellent at all. I guess I will d/l that show and convert it to FLAC. Maybe I'll torrent it on EZT so that it gets spread around more. It's quite rare.

you would have better luck going to the dumpster and finding a pc from someone who switched over to a mac
