Alright, I've got AudioConverter set up on my computer. Windows Media Player developers in their infinite wisdom have obviously not included FLAC as a known file to play or to burn on a CD or transfer to an MP3 player. Thus my problem. I'm trying to convert rather large FLAC files into either mp3 or wav files. Problem being that AudioConverter does not entirely convert the file. I can only get the first 10 seconds of every song converted. I've got SWITCH as well and that does nothing, it comes up with some random error halfway through the conversion. Is there any reccomended programs I can try or is there a way to go into AudioConverter and change the settings around so it converts my entire file? Help is greatly appreciated!!!

Use Trader's Little Helper to convert your FLAC files to WAV:

http://thor.prohosting.com/roh0205/

Then use whatever to convert those WAV files to MP3 for your MP3 player.

I'm trying to convert rather large FLAC files into either mp3 or wav files.

Just as a heads up, the WAV files will be a LOT larger then the FLAC files when you're done doing the conversion.

DbPowerAmp, Google it, it's free. grab all the codecs for the music converter from codec central and you should have no problems converting to any of those formats without any extra steps. Unless your files are corrupted.

almost :lolWhat does TLH do that xACT doesn't (other than create torrent files) ?

BTW, are you familiar with XLD (http://tmkk.hp.infoseek.co.jp/xld/index_e.html) ? The bloke updates it with dizzying regularity and it's a hell of a lot less convoluted than Max for the lossless->lossy thang.

tests for SBEs w/o automatically fixing them, creates checksum when encoding to flac [instead of seperate steps] as well as set to sector boundaries, i like the process log window instead of the pop-up txt file in xACT...the "test decoded files for mp3" feature is interesting, don't kno how accurate it is bu a good idea none the less...few other things but i'm drawing a blank

never used XLD...might give it a go and see how i like it...cheers for the link ffooky!

tests for SBEs w/o automatically fixing themxACT can do that one (shntool->len)creates checksum when encoding to flac [instead of seperate steps] as well as set to sector boundariesThat's useful, though I hope it's using shntool to correct the sector boundaries rather than flac, at least until flac 1.1.3 is out of beta.never used XLD...might give it a go and see how i like it...cheers for the link ffooky!Typical, just as I recommend XLD, it seems to have gone tits up, on my machine at least.

Now that the sexy new functions of flac 1.1.3 are nearly with us, I'm intending to mail Scott and see if he'll roll a new xACT. I'll mention these features of TLH in the hope he might incorporate them as well.

One of the things I've always like about xACT is Scott's dedication to it. I think he's done a great job and offers excellent support.

You're dead right Lynne. Other similar apps have sprung up but none have so successfully combined a simple, clean, Mac-like GUI with a high level and depth of functionality. The way features have been added and bugs addressed is really first class and puts a lot of commercial apps to shame.

It would only take a couple of checkboxes in the encode window to add the features Aaron likes.

werd...hopefully Scott'll be down for a small update [especially the st5 creation on encode]...really doesn't seem like too much of a pain, but i don't know anything about coding

i forgot about the len test feature instead of just using the Fix SBE button--i'ma have to start using that again...

while were at it, another feature i think would be nice [none of the GUIs do this as far as i know]...maybe its already possible and i just don't know

when creating DVDs, i use the "3 folder" system [w/ the EXTRAS_TS folder for non-video files]...so when i create a checksum, i point it to save to the EXTRAS_TS folder, but have to manually go in and edit each line with a ../VIDEO_TS/ in the path name...it'd be really nice if when specifying another folder to save to, it could edit the path automatically...just thouhgt i'd throw it out there :D
