I want some advice with regards to what equipment to use to get a decent quality recording of shows that I attend. I've got a Sony Minidisc player/recorder MZ-N710 & a Sony ECM - D870P stereo mic but it does not do a very good job, the recordings always turn out very distorted. So if there's anyone that can help me out either by letting me know what they use or recommend it would be appreciated.

Cheers.

These kinds of requests come along very often, and usually the responses are pretty similar:

1 - check out taperssection.com which is a site specializing in taper info and is very newbie friendly

2 - folks here will help too but need to know at least some baseline information such as: what kinds of artists are you looking to record, are you going to be recording openly (i.e. artists that allow open taping) or stealthing, and what kind of budget do you have to dedicate to taping equipment.

Your responses to those questions in #2 will do a lot to help folks help you; additionally check out this (http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=35278.0) thread followed by this (http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=35004.0) thread to get as complete an answer as anybody is able to give you on-the-fly.

Good luck!!
