View Full Version : To firewalled or not to firewalled

I seem to have a problem that only exists here and not somewhere else and that is that TTD continuesly gives me a firewalled notification on my stats in the upper right corner.

This should not be the case, since the port is open (UDP and TCP) and people are able to download, though for some reason no-one is able to download my Vaccines torrent.

I've already tried stopping and starting my torrents (multiple times), turned of the firewall in my modem and put my rig in the DMZ but all to no avail.

This is the only site where I seem to have this problem . . .

Hi,
It would be such a shame if all these great uploads can't get seeded.
Your uploads from yesterday were all perfect.
I'm at the Pinkpop Festival right now and would love to download these fantastic shows from you.
Maybe you can try to seed them with an other client?
For example: an older version from uTorrent can be found on the web and installed very easy.
I really hope you will be able to seed your uploads.
Good luck and many thanks for all you do!

I started having this problem with Vuze and newer versions of utorrent, I found an older version of utorrent (1.6) and that has its issues but usually connects fairly well

Well that's the thing, I've been using older versions of uTorrent (currently 2.2 build 24402) for eons because of all the bloatware they "included" in later versions.

I'll try an earlier version but I do think that the issue is with TTD rather on my end, since I never had this issue up until a few weeks ago . . .

I find it takes ages for a new upload to connect where it used to be almost immediate but yours not connecting sounds like the issue I had with Vuze so I gave up on it in the end. utorrent 1.6 works for me now

As mentioned in the comments of your Vaccines torrent, which eventually got downloaded by the way, I'm having the same issue. I'm active mainly on two torrent sites and TTD is the one thinking I'm firewalled, both with two different torrent clients. The other site does not see me as firewalled and works just fine. The ports are open for torrents and running a check on CanYouSeeMe.org (also) confirms that. So, this indeed appears to be an issue on TTD's end instead of the used client(s)?

TTD shows me as firewalled intermittently. If I reload the page after a few minutes the firewalled notification disappears. It didn't stop me reseeding a few torrents recently, and doesn't seem to have any effect on the torrents I download.
Edit: I'm using utorrent 2.2.1.

Looks like your Editors one has worked now.

Have you tried right clicking on the torrent and using the 'force start' option?

I have otherwise it would've been queued.

I've downgraded my client to 1.8.5 (build 17091) and the issue still persist, will try 1.6 later on . . .

It's well known that the page randomly shows you "firewalled" even if you're in fact not. There's nothing to worry about.

I've exactly the same, using multiple clients:

- utorrent 1.7.7 (build 8179),
- qbittorrent 4.5.5,
- transmission 2.92 (build 14714).

Did 1.6 make it work for you? It's a bit slow making connections for me but it works.

That works, although often needs at least one non-firewalled person to be on the torrent

It's a site issue, not a "you" issue. Be patient, everything works eventually.

Yes, with 1,6 I no longer get the firewalled message. Still strange though, I've been using 2.2 for years with no trouble at all and suddenly a few weeks ago I was "firewalled".

I was kinda hoping that staff would chime in here, since I probably won't be the only one having this issue . . .

Glad you got it sorted, I had my old PC with 1.6 in the cupboard and was able to check it worked and then copied it over and it solved my problem. As others have said, I still think there's site problems that means connections can take a while.

glad to hear you got things worked out.

Now deal with this asap...

...turned of the firewall in my modem and put my rig in the DMZ...

If you're not already compromised and/or part of a bot net you will be soon enough.

Personally i'd shut that one down and wipe/re-install the OS before you bring it back into the internal network. I assume you used the DMZ host option on your router so you might have already compromised your internal network anyways since that box would be able to talk directly to your internal network AND you exposed it unprotected on the internet. Once compromised its a simple lateral move to the rest of your network, which im going to assume you dont have locked down in any meaningful way.

Port forwarding is the correct solution here NOT dropping your box unprotected on the internet :)

I've said "... turned of the firewall in my modem and put my rig in the DMZ but all to no avail." which means that I've tried those options to see if the problem would go away. Since it wasn't, both have been re-activated again . . .

Not linked to the issue, but to your posts, and it's a minor thing, none of them seem to tag either the date or the artist, which will make tag searching difficult for people trying to find stuff in future or avoiding duplicate posts down the line. These should create automatically if you're uploading from a browser, so not sure why they're not. Maybe one for the admins?

We are now on page 2 and not one comment from a mod. Probably why the site nearly failed. I can only seed if I'm not the only seeder. I can download fine but don't want to kill my ratio.

There is no ratio enforcement here. :)
