NovaAngel19 was nice enough to trade a copy of the Stone Temple Pilots show I went to back in 2001. It took me forever to track this one down and I have nothing but praise for this person. An excellent trader and all around nice guy. :)

Nova, are you still burning dvd player to standalone recorder or are you burning with a PC burner yet?

Do people you trade with know you don't burn dvds correctly?
I would be furious if someone sent me dvds burned that way!

yes, i always tell people ahead of time. and if you go to TapeTrader, my Recording Notes clearly indicate that i am using a StandAlone for the time being ... while most "purists" hate StandAlone transfers, there is only a 1% quality loss and an original menu is not included. the only major downfall is that there is more likely to be errors on the disc ... but almost everyone i've traded with has been satisfied. regardless, i DO tell people.

It adds generation, just like with VHS. One percent...you are kidding yourself!
The downfall is you are generating a source and spreading it around the trading community!
I know someone you didn't tell......

you're right, when i was new at trading DVDs, like a year ago, i didnt think of telling people ... in one particular trade there was a purist, like yourself, and he was very upset that i did it that way ... it was my mistake for not telling him and after that, i realized i should tell people and have been ever since. ive made about 20-30 successful trades since then, and every one of them knew about the SA-transfers.

and yes, the quality loss is very low as i record everything in HQ and most of my shows come from original HQ VHS anyway and since i dont have a DVD Burner at the moment, i just transfer my VHS copies to DVD for people who want the show(s) ... unless you can think of some other way to transfer them to DVD w/o a Burner, i'd really like to know. i have alot of shows people dont have, in regards to certain bands, and i always tell them ahead of time ... if anyone decides to go forward with a trade, that's their choice ... and alot of people have chosen to trade with me anyway.

you are right though, there have a handful of cases when i have traded with people in the past, and they have reported glitches on the discs ... that's not cool and i dont like to rip people off, im just not that kind of trader ... which is why i am getting a PC Burner asap.

You must trade with some very desperate people.
If you don't have a dvd burner......you don't trade, that's all there is to it! You don't send people inferior copies...wow! I didn't think it was that hard to figure out.
The only reason I was drawn to this post is i know someone who just got in a bunch of your SA junk and is FAR from pleased. You will be hearing about it very soon I am sure.

yes, i know exactly who you are talking about now ... he and i already discussed this through PM's. here's the facts, he wanted to trade with me ... he wanted some STP DVDs and i told him that they were all gonna be SA-transfers ... obviously, he went ahead with the trade ... well, he PM'd me when he got the shows and was apparently unhappy with the DVDs. i told him, in the PM, that i had already informed him about the DVDs being SA-transfered, im not sure if he misunderstood or what, but i told him both times and it was his choice to trade with me. he seemed fine with that.

and if he's still "far from pleased" with the shows, then why are you posting on this thread and not him? like i said, he and i already discussed this through PM's, so there's no need to be a drama queen about it.

Letting people know you are polluting the trading pool with SA transferred junk isn't being a "drama queen". It is necessary to let people know to AVOID you so that shit doesn't trickle down to real traders.

I consider myself a real trader (that's why I'm here, aren't I?), but sometimes you just have to settle with what you can get for now and wait for the better stuff later.

While in theory that may sound good, I am sure the crap you got from Nova will be traded openly by you and whoever else gets it. That is the problem. It gets spread like that.
Did you use PC burner when you send him dvds? I bet you did. But now, since Nova can't seem to get a $30 burner, the dvds you sent will be passed on with a generation added....
Someone authors up a dvd with a nice menu for fans to be able to enjoy the dvd even more....well if you get that DVD from Nova, you can forget that menu and the hard work the author put into making the dvd! But Nova doesn't mind because his copy sure has one.
That is why this shouldn't be tollerated. What gives them the right to pass around inferior copies when others are doing it the right way?

I can understand what you're saying. Of course you are correct when saying I used a PC-burner as well. I dis-like stand-alone transfers as much as the next guy, but if I have to deal with it for now I will. If I get an upgrade (non-standalone transfer) this copy will be thrown away. I plan to place this STP DVD no my list as no trades anyways due to the inferior transfer. I am still glad to have received it and of course the generiousity of the trader since I had nothing of his interest.

But why should you have to?! So you can't trade it now due to their lack of interest in doing it right? Does that seem right to you?
Next time ask around and don't settle for junk. There are alot of good people out there who would help you. If someone who clearly doesn't know what they are doing has the show you want, someone who values quality will, also.
