This was sudden. The Genesis movement torrent site was closed today. I'm not sure if there was any advance warning that it was closing. Sad day.

We welcome any and all Genesis fans here....

Ah, this explains all the Genesis shows suddenly coming up on Dime.

What happened to it? "Recent events" sounds like there's a story

The story that I'm piecing together, as I see it, is that a very large flood of material was posted from insider circles in a huge leak - possibly from Phil Collins' personal collection [speculation] - and new ownership of the catalog and rights holders got upset enough to pull the plug on the open ignorance of fan made trading that the band and management has had for 22+ years. There are also several YouTube channels that featured the band's works removed by these measures.

The stuff on Dime is barely scratching the surface of how much was on The Genesis Movement site, though, as I understand it. Couple the recent hundred gigabytes or so that happened in the last few days, taking everything along with it really sucks...

For now, I welcome my Genesis friends to The Trader's Den as some refuge and respite. I an a big old fan of the band and it's offshoot members. I do hope that the new conglomerate corporation that feels like ending the support of it's fan base doesn't extend here. I suppose if we're contacted, things might change...

So glad I jumped on that torrent just yesterday afternoon. It included the complete camera angles for the Bataclan '73 video. Amazing stuff. Some was only Tape 1 or Tape 2 of shows, proving that 60 years later there are still hoarders. I believe the info posted said the tapes came from their soundboard guy, who had been sitting on them forever, and there are STILL MORE that might surface soon. Then again, we never did get that 2nd DVD of the Tullavision show from Miami that we were told was "in the works".

BTW, some of us are still seeding, so I guess you can get on the line even without the tracker.

I wonder, if, for now, something like that and more torrents could get posted at TTD? Hmmm.......
Thoughts?

Firstly, I would like to thank all of those who have taken the time to contact me privately with kind words of support, I'm truly touched and will reply to the personal messages soon. Also to those who have commented on threads on this group and elsewhere to express their sadness and disappointment. It's the end of an era and the end of a 22 year labour of love.
What happened?
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, I received notification "on behalf of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (“IFPI”) and the record companies it represents globally" stating that "Your service is making available to the public, distributing and/or allowing users to make available to the public and/or distribute unauthorised copies of performances of artists represented by the IFPI Members (“Infringing Content”). "
The instruction was to immediately cease the operation of the site to avoid further action.
It is evident that recent uploads gained the attention of the copyright owners and/or that the site has been reported to the IFPI through their channels. While the site has managed to sail under the radar for a long time with only minor skirmishes, unfortunately times have changed and we no longer just get a slap on the wrists. We were always tolerated by Genesis management, however things are all more corporate now, especially since the rights holders have changed.
I should be clear that although the recent upload may have been the straw that broke the camel's back, just removing that torrent was not an option. It was seen that even the audience recordings are viewed as copyright violations.
Where from here?
There are no plans to resurrect the torrent site. I simply can't take that risk. There are of course other sharing platforms available, however they may also be a bit more guarded that before about what they allow moving forward.
The Live Database at https://www.genesis-movement.org will live on (hopefully) since it is essentially just a list of information with no real copyright infringing material. I have been updating the listings on the site and will go back to doing so after a bit of a break.
So again, thanks to all those who contributed to the site, supported the site, and helped to keep it alive and running for so long. I will miss it as much as you.
Thanks
Simon

I was out of the loop on this whole thing!!! For clarity, does this mean due to the impact of what happened there, there will be no hosting of any of those items here?

Nobody that I know (including me) has said that here. Yet. If things take intense turns for the worse and we get contacted by the same fine folks that contacted Simon, things may change...

I'm not sure exactly how large the GigaLeak is, but I think that I read that there's over 100gb total. I've been looking for sources for it, and waiting on a good lead for it all. Some to most of it was posted on the Genesis Reddit page earlier today and quickly deleted. A replacement post popped up, on a fairly sketchy hoster with lots of NSFW ads, but so far I'm easily downloading something like 75 gb of zip files from a link on this page with JDownloader:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Genesis/comments/1n6zs72/gigaleak_bunkr_link/
Proceed at your own risk!

Meanwhile, I look forward to what should be next: a flood of Genesis folks and posts, or dread what could also be next. NAB list. Let's hope it don't come to that...

I tried the bunkr site, but my antivirus blocked it because of a possible trojan horse. It's probably eset being too cautious, but I didn't want to take any chances. I managed to grab most of the stuff that interested me on dime. Mostly, I wanted the shows from the Mama tour and the Three Sides Live tour, because I didn't have much stuff from these. I have already a very sizeable collection of the other tours that matter to me. The later tours (Invisible Touch and We Can't Dance) don't interest me. It's a shame there weren't more shows with Peter.

The shows are supposed to be from Craig Schertz's personal collection. He was the sound guy for Genesis and Phil Collins for a long, long time. Some say the tapes are also from Phil Collins' collection.

I was looking at the writing on some of these jcards and comparing them to photos we have of what was shown publicly from the collection at their studio - the farm. In particular, the jcard of the 1974 Chicago show (I got to see the pictures somewhere as they were provided in the torrent) has identical writing to a 1975 Chicago show on the jcard label. I'm weary. I might be wrong, but I got the feeling a good lot of that was actually stolen from that studio.

I use Vuse for Torrents. You can literally just click on the Open Torrents button and paste the hash into the box that pops up, and you're done. I do that with TPB torrents too, I don't like downloading torrent files from there. Pretty sure most torrent clients have a similar functionality.

seriously???

I love this website, but that's really alarming. I guess we will now see the band and Phil Collins put on a NAB list as a safeguard.

Ironic if Phil Collins, of all artists, has to be put on NAB list considering all the hate he already gets!

The ultimate no fun zone. Ugh.

I have the whole thing downloaded (I think) and am going to work through some of the raw files for mastering over here, not sure where I can actually post them though. Love that for a lot of these they released the raw cassette transfer as well as 'polished' versions, some of which I think are great and a few others I'm like "hmm, i think i can do better."

Imagine if Genesis' organization put half as much effort into releasing their archives as they are containing this leak (which, is a pointless task once the stuff is out there)

In qbittorrent choose File/Add Torrent Link and paste infohash... and life is again beautiful :)

There is no need to convert to torrent or magnet or create some link. When you paste hash and click ok it will automatically open up dialog in which you can choose what to download, if you dont want everything.

One could probably take that hash and use something like hashtomagnet.com and it's magnet link generator to make it work. But I'm not advocating for anyone to download it... But it works!

Yeah, Simon came around to trying again, with more rules and some omissions of the questionable sources. Turn it on again, indeed! They do have a bit of a community there that would not re-build somewhere else the way it exists there, so it's good that they're back. It's a deep dive for a band that no other torrent site can represent the same way. We might have some Genesis and Dime might have some, but they have more than both of us ever could! But to continue to exist, they can't have "everything" anymore...

I'm kind of surprised that nobody tried posting any of it here! :hide:

People keep saying to enter the hash into torrent client, I enter it, nothing happens. Then to use that hash to website. Enter the hash info there, click on create magnet. Copy the magnet info into qBittorent and guess what? Nothing happens. It literally just sits there. No torrent is created nor starts up.

I used an ad blocker (uBlock Origin) to log on to the site and download. It worked out very well and I was able to get what I could not download from dime. You may want to give it a try. Basically, the not so reputable stuff is lots of ads for porn sites.

Anyway, looking over the new rules at The Movement, it says that the only soundboards not allowed are those after 1978. So I would think that the shows you want are actually safe to put on The Movement.

You can take the string of text that is the magnet link, and paste it in the address bar of your browser, enter, and Firefox asked me what program to use to open it... Pick uTorrent or whatever, and off you go!

But I haven't got any of these illegal files... ...;)

That does not work. It brings up the prompt to open bit torrent client but when i click Open Link, nothing happens. It just closes the pop up and nothing opens in qBitorrent. I have been torrenting for as long as it has been a thing and I do not understand why this isnt working. I use magnet links every day so there is something wrong with that hash numbers.

Doesn't matter which browser I use either. Tried in Firefox, Brave, and Chrome.

Ok, so, supposing somebody had managed to download that entire folder - all 100 gb worth - before it was removed and the ban was introduced, what do they do with it now? Not all of it was post-1978; there's some Lamb stuff in there and some stuff from 1973 so I suppose that could still be uploaded. But it seems that there's a bit of a quandary now, as there will be collectors who have what Concord now construe as being legally theirs, who would still want to share this material freely, rather than just hoard it or, even worse, want to charge other collectors for their ill-gotten gains.

Furthermore, some of the stuff is only available as a raw file and would need the talents and skills of collectors who are good at remastering, stem-splitting etc. Skills which are beyond my ken...if I even had the files in the first place. Which, of course, I don't ;)

Hello,
I am the one who uploaded the original torrent with some friends. I am sure it wasn't Genesis Management or Concords who did this; it was probably a collector who told the company some nonsense, as if they had stolen audio recordings or something, and that's why they had to react.
Now the site is back, thankfully. Otherwise, AudioArchivist, can you check your PMs on TTD? Regarding one of your hearings that we discussed a few months ago.

I have already remastered a couple of the shows and posted them to G101. I'd be happy to post them here or elsewhere where rules allow (I still don't see Phil/Genesis on the 'band restrictions' list here, but of course remasters are frowned upon for some reason) Hoping to work on some more over the next few months, I'll figure out a way to get them out there.

Meh, there's a statute of limitations on this stuff for me. How it's legally anyone's at this point is ridiculous, the band and their labels have had literal decades to release stuff from the vault, and instead put out redundant compilations or archival albums that were still of lesser sound quality than what bootleg collectors had. Moreover, these are straight soundboard tapes and not multitrack recordings, of which Genesis still has many in their vault that would be better than anything a mastering engineer could do with these (still excellent) straight board mixes. I mean, the lawyers can do their thing and technically be in the right, but it's pretty silly to sit on this great stuff for decades and then be all mad when suddenly it's out there because fans are still interested in it.
