Ok...so I have a DVD of some old VHS footage. I have recently aquired a proper SBD audio copy of the performance and would like to make a re-master.

So....how can I go about this in a kosher manner.....keeping the quality intact.

you'll definitely need to demux it, then add the new audio in...what OS are you on? do you have any video editing/dvd authoring software already?

I am using WindowsXP. I use Vegas to edit/sync video and DVD Archtect to author. I have extracted the DVD to my HDD and have the VOB file intact, its a short set so its only a ~600MB VOB file.

What next?

i'm a little rusty when it comes to PC ish, but i believe you can demux [split the vob's audio and video] using DVD Shrink...there was also a prog called Virtual Dub that can do it as well...ya might try searching over at videohelp.com using the key word "demux"...

as to the actual steps of the process, hopefully one of the PC authorers will be able to give you some more details
