View Full Version : Download only audio from DVD torrents?

I'm clueless when it comes to the content of the various files in a DVD torrent. I also do not have the U/L bandwidth to properly share DVDs, so I must pass them by. However, many DVD torrents come by that have lossless audio I wish I could get. This leads to my questions:

1) What files in a DVD torrent contain the audio? 2) If I download only the files containing the audio portion, is there an easy way to extract the audio? 3) If 2 is possible, would this save any significant bandwidth? (I could always just share the audio files back to the torrent to help out and get my U/L share).

Sorry if I missed it, but I just did not see these questions clearly answered anywhere in the FAQ or elsewhere.

Thanks for any help!

You will have to download the whole dvd and demux (extract) the audio.

The VOB files in the VIDEO_TS folder that you download to get a DVD contain both the video and the audio together. As brimstone said, you would have to download all those files and then extract the audio yourself.

if your connection is too slow you can mail trade DVDs, it is another fun way to get shows. usually costs under $2+blanks which you would have to buy anyways

Thank you all for clearing that up for me. DSL finally made its way to my doorstep, so if Lady Fortune ever smiles on me again, I think I could afford a balanced DSL line + a dual WAN router. Until then, I guess some good old-fashioned trading is the way to go.
