View Full Version : Why is this happening?

Why is the site arbitrarily changing the info I enter in the "Bootleg Title or Venue/City (optional)" line?

I uploaded a show by a band called stellastarr* and it was changed to "the stellastarrs". Also at the end of that line I put a code number like #2023-018 to indicate which upload number this is for the year, and these keep getting removed.

I can go in and edit and change and re-add the info, but it is beyond annoying.

I sent U2Lynne an email about your question. Seems quite bizarre to me too. Has it always been doing this?

That is odd. I have never heard of this happening upon upload. I do know that sometimes the mods have changed the titles at times, but you are talking about when hitting the upload button, right?

Punctuation can screw with trackers, it see’s the punctuation as html code, at LL we ask that people not put punctuation in titles because the torrent clients get all screwed up from ampersands and the like, and the torrent files won’t download properly, that is probably your problem, but I am just spitballing here …

Nothing to do with the torrent file name, just the thread title. Just noticed it the last couple of days.

I blame dandrew :D

OK - here's an example of the issue I originally stated

Note the subject line on this torrent:
http://www.thetradersden.org/forums/showthread.php?t=187430

Then note the subject line on the comment I posted under the torrent announcement. It still has the "#2023-021" that has now been deleted from the torrent announcement subject line.

Correct.

This is me, not a gremlin.

Apologies for any confusion I've caused. I've reached to dorrcoq directly.

I've been working to edit the torrent titles to make them cleaner, more user-friendly, and less cluttered with what I view as extraneous and/or redundant info.

My personal feeling is the titles should be limited to essential info - band, date, venue, 16/24 bit if both are posted, and format. That's it. And that's why I have gone in and edited (removed) the "2022-123" notations in dorrcoq's posts.

IMHO, putting in taper's names, mic info, and the like is not necessary to include in the torrent TITLE.

If a potential downloader wants more detailed information, they can get it by clicking on the post and reading the full torrent post and/or the info.txt file.

How do you differentiate then when 4 tapers tape and post the same show?

I've used this format for years, similar to dandrew's;
Hoodoo Gurus - 1986-04-02 The Ritz, New York City, NY, USA (SBD 2496 FLAC)

If it was a remaster or multiple tapers, I might use something like this:
Hoodoo Gurus - 1986-04-02 The Ritz, New York City, NY, USA (SBD 2496 JWB remaster FLAC)

Parenthesis are optional but help separate the metadata from the gig identifier. Naming it as such with the date like that sorts well and contains the most important info.

If 16 bit only, I just leave that info out.

Short abbreviated unsortable naming schemes I've seen I find not useful:
gd80-09-26tape1sbd24
js1994-06-11.156679.chief.mcgee.miller.flac1648
Kiss-New York June 16th 1973 Flac

For AUD recordings, I don't really need to know what microphone or gear was used (in the title). The source type in the title is useful- AUD, FM, SBD, IEM + AUD, ALD, etc.

Src 1, Src 2. Again, my feeling is people can open the torrent file and get the additional info. But maybe that's just me.

Your site, your rules, of course, but what a way to annoy (and perhaps discourage) regular contributors.

The microphone abbreviation is way better than source 1/2/3 imo

I have to admit I was concerned with dandrew editing the titles, but after several months I think his efforts do show a good degree of consistency, organization, and logic. Compared with the crazy titles you sometimes see on Dime, I must say thank you. I hope to get his naming convention into the FAQ with some examples.
