Hi,
me -as many others -are sad that TTD will close down end of this month.
TTD is and was for sure a very good alternative to another (big) torrent site.

So ... just a silly thought ...

Maybe someone else is willing to take over this place and continiue with TTD ?

No one any good at anything is going to be willing to step into what is most likely some legacy ass mess that even the current administrators can't or don't want to deal with anymore and they shouldn't. It would be impossible and it would fail. That is ignoring the fact that you can't hand the keys for an established name, no matter how small, to some random person on the internet.

The way forward is to launch a new site in the same spirit. You always need two. You need Waffles and WhatCD, you need Redacted and Orpheus, and you need Dime and something else. Unfortunately, it takes a very specific kind of person with a lot of time and/or passion to put in the effort and also the requisite skills which happen to be much higher rewarded by doing literally anything else besides hosting a sharing site for free and paying for it out of pocket for a while to boot. It might happen and when it does we better be there, but it won't be tomorrow...

Is BitTorrent even needed anymore? 2TB of Google Drive storage cost $10 a month. 1TB on mediafire is $3.75 a month. Most have 5-10GB with free accounts. Can tapers and uploaders post links to these or some other cloud storage? Or will it get flagged once so many people download it?

With BitTorrent you have the chance to download a single track to sample a show, and you have the camaraderie of other members posting comments discussing the fileset etc. I have been an enthusiastic BT user since its inception and a member here since a month after the launch of the site. I will miss it greatly and hope someone can step in and save it.

I call BS. It's not impossible and if the person(s) have the required skills, money, and time, they can succeed, and keep the same established name. Passing the torch goes on all the time in the real world.

You're right. That's how TTD began, after Sharing The Groove was abandoned by that goof who started it.

Google Drive/Mediafire: especially Mediafire, police the content and respond to DMCA takedowns. Mediafire also delete content that isn't downloaded. It's not great for preservation, torrents are always better
