my computer locked up and I had to shut it down manually. Is there any way that i can start the torrent back up without losing all the progress it had made?

Sure. Just start your torrent file again and when it asks where to put the files, point it to the folder that you originally pointed to (like 'Downloads') and then it will say it is checking the progress and it will start counting (is. 1%, 2%, 3%, etc.) and then when it reaches the point that you were before, it will start downloading again.

Programs like Azureus will keep track of your torrent files and you would just need to push the start button again. (Actually, same with bittorrent. You should always download the torrent file to your harddrive so you can restart with just a push of the start button.)
