In laymans term's, which equipment is needed for cassatte/vinyl to disc?
how basic or complicated can it be assembled?
Which brand names and model's would be reccomended?
Price is alway's an issue, but would like to choose from cheap to expensive.

I learn at a fair rate, but where to begin?

CASSETTE:
you definitely want a 3 head cassette deck...tascam & nakamichi's are both good...also, a decent A/D converter would be wise [this could range from a couple hundred dollar box up into the thousands for pro-level gear]...check the link in the following thread for deals...also bhphotovideo.com or oade.com are good resources

VINYL:
for starters, you'll need a decent turntable [i'd recommend a direct drive motor--not belt drive, having pitch control is also a plus]...as far as quality-to-price, Stanton makes a nice table for cheap...

more important is the stylus/cartridge...you want a *quality* cartridge, which'll run anywhere from a hundred bucks and up...ortofon makes good cartridges, as does some of the shure's, and if you want audiophile quality--check out some of grado labs' needles  here's some links:

www.turntablelab.com [where i buy most of my DJ-related gear from, excellent company & prices]

you will also need a mixer/amp that's designed to boost a turntable's signal, and an A/D converter [i would stay away from using yer home stereo amp as yer amp/mixer--but i'm picky like that so...]

feel free to PM me with specific ?s...in the meantime, here's some threads you might wanna look at:

I found this thread quite useful for cassette transfers.
