It can be "acquired" if you look hard enough.

Why compress a DVD in the first place?

Sometimes people download a DVD9 and they don't have a dual layer burner and they want to view it on their TV. So, compress and burn and watch it on your TV, however, one should not then trade that copy. The DVD9 files should be burned as data and then those files can be traded.
