cd-dvd burner issue

for some reason on monday night my cd-dvd player burner stopped working. i can put in a blank disc and nothing happens no messages or anything. same issue with a commerical cd-dvd disc. worked monday morning but now nothing. using a hp laptop with windows 7. anything i can do to get it working again ?

replace the drive sounds like your best option if it doesn't spin up a disc

Dirt cheap to replace and far less irritating than trying to figuring out why the old one ain't working.

Does your operating system see your current drive?

if you do a lot of ripping/burning, drives die eventually. probably been through 4-5 over 20ish years
