I noticed this site has a donations page, as many of these bootleg trading sites do.

But I was wondering if the admins have ever considered joining the Amazon.com affiliate program or something and advertising official releases for artists torrented here. I think it's like a 5% or 10% commission on every sale. I can't imagine that the record industry would bitch because sales of official product are being promoted--which is what they want anyway.

It looks like running a site like this is expensive.

we will never put advertising on TTD

even if it means closing down

but thanks for the suggestion

looks like the site needs a little help !

Total running costs to date: $10,921.23
Total donations to date: $10,897.93

a little from every goes a long way.

I think it's because of the server upgrades eating up the surplus.

Hi,
Fairly new - so please excuse the naive question.

Is any upload credit given for donations?

Some sites do and some sites don't - I haven't noticed it mentioned anywhere.

no upload credit given for donations

its a little too close for comfort to 'selling' downloads

there is no ratio enforcement here and we understand that ppl will help in many ways not only by maintaining a 1:1 ratio (but of course that's good too).

we appreciate all donations, its the only way that we can stay online.

besides.. you don't need upload credits here... everything is free.. never any restrictions placed due to ratios. Ever. The ratios are there for you to keep track of your overall karma....

I strongly encourage you not to donate.

Yeah, even if you have a bad ratio, chances are you help out in other ways, even if it isn't vining or b+p'ing shows. If you help a lot with tech advice and things like that. I'm not saying to hit and run or anything, but noone has ever been banned for a bad ratio (that I know of, vet members can correct me if I'm wrong).

Hi all,

Thanks to everyone who has donated over the past 24 hours. I am gad to say that we are covered for this month. We have over $100 for the next month too.

I have added an extra option to the VIP Membership donation option. It is $25 for 3 months. This means that you can donate that little it more if you want.

I have had a few queries as to the nature of the need for donations. The site hosting costs $299 a month. that is for 2TB of data transfer a month. We use about 1TB a month. Also the software for the forum costs $119 a year. The reason Ii ask for donations is to cover these costs only.

If just 30 people donated $10 a month we are about covered.

Also somebody asked me about not using PayPal. If you want to send me a cheque or cash, send me a PM on the site. We can talk about it.

Lets keep the community alive.

I promise i won't flood your mail boxes with these emails all the time. About once a month when the bill has been paid. I will probably add a few news items about the site/beatlegs in general too.

thanks for reading and donating.

Chris (razorkiller20004) just received this email

:hmm: So that's a thank you letter from another site? Are you sure you meant to post that here?

That site gives perks in exchange for donating, which is a lot like selling the bootlegs. I like the site, I just don't agree with giving anyone anything back for donating.

and the email was spam.
and the pricing is WAY out of whack for that size website.

if I wanted to pay for boots - Id visit my local record store.
but i prefer to just steal them at parties.
