Reseeding question

In relation to a video, years back, I was told by one of the video mods, that the md5 of the reseed had to match the md5 of the original post.

Does this approach apply as well to audio reseeds?

(And yes, I know it would be ffp or shntool md5 files instead of the standard md5 that would be involved with audio reseeds.)

I did take a look at the FAQ, but didn't find anything that pertained, (likely due to my poor searching,) so if this written down somewhere, a link to that would be welcome.

Follow up question: If my understanding is correct, if the st5 of a reseed doesn't match the original post's st5, the audio has been altered.
Am I getting that part right?

Well...depends. Does every file not match the md55, or maybe just something like the text file?

One thing that will change the md5 without actually altering the audio files is if they were tagged after the initial seeding.

I'm not sure, but I would think if you listed it as a reseed and noted that the md5 has changed you should be OK. Just means nobody else can likely help you seed it with their files.

Let me try and narrow down my question.

Should the ffp or st5 of a reseed match the ffp or st5 of the original, and would not any mismatch show the audio has been altered?

As I said before...if the files were tagged after, then the md5 won't match, although the actual audio hasn't been altered.

Do you have ffp's? Tagging won't alter them.

If somebody altered the audio files wouldn't they call it a "remaster"? Reseed generally means nothing has changed, although you often see minor changes such as tagging, updated text files, etc.

I did re-look at the FAQ and finally found the concerned section,
under "Audio BitTorrent Seeding Policy", part 5.

"On the same token, once a show has been ripped to lossless media format, burning to a CD and then re-extracting is an extraneous step that often-times results in errors. FLAC, APE, or SHN sets that circulate may not be burned to audio CD and then re-traded or re-seeded. In otherwords, nothing like flac > CDR > (extraction method > wav >) flac. Please archive and trade only the original lossless files or acoustically identical alternate formats (verify this with st5s - see the Checksum Types FAQ). CDR generations are bad for the trading pool, and unless all versions of the bootleg circulate only on CDR, it will not be permitted here."

Thank goodness, the "reseed" I was suspicious of is indeed no good, and this all hasn't been an exercise in futility.
