My iPod plays in my car, but I can only skip. It doesn't have my song list. It just says the music content is empty, so I can't choose songs.

Thanks

Are you adding info when importing to iTunes? I have to convert to ALAC and tag the files before I use them on my iPod touch. Without artist, album, or contributing artist fields populated - there is no info to display besides song title which is usually/always filename.

If the album title or artist don't appear, then I will add info in Itunes. The info is on my iPod.

and this only happens when you play it in the car?

Yes, I have to use the car's skipping to switch tracks. The iPod just says you can disconnect.

So this sound like an issue with how your ipod interfaces with your car audio.

A better description of how you "hook" your ipod to your car, and what you car has for audio will assist folks in helping you. I am assuming this is NOT a bluetooth connection.

More info is always better than less.

It's a MyLink radio. I forgot to say when a song is playing the artist and song title show on the radio's screen, but I can't search for any songs in the library. I can only skip. It's hooked up through a USB.

Does the ipod info display correctly on the MyLink when the car is in park, but not while it's in gear?

This is said to be a safety interlock to help you keep your eyes on the road. I didn't find a good answer about if this feature is disabled if you have someone, or a sandbag, in the passenger seat.

Otherwise, here's a link to a discussion thread on the ipod vs My Link issues, may provide some clues, from a Chevy Colorado owners group.
http://coloradofans.com/forums/201-2nd-gen-electronics-audio-lighting/265810-has-anyone-updated-their-mylink-software-firmware.html

Could also be a need for a firmware update, possibly for both the ipod and the MyLink.

Then there's this:
Why won’t Chevrolet MyLink index my music from my USB?

We recommend that there be no other files on your device when playing music or downloading any data. Any other files could interfere with the system properly indexing your music. We recommend that your USB thumb drive† be formatted before loading music and pictures. Some USB thumb drives have special security or encryption software; this software may prevent the device from being recognized. In addition, the system might not support that format of device.

Here's the link I found that at: http://www.chevrolet.com/2014-mylink-radio.html

Once again more info, better answers. Make model and year info would be helpful, but not to me, I'm out.
Good luck.

I used to have a simialr problem to yours. Once i streamed some songs into my ipad, after i clicked the play button, no sound came out, but the songs were still running, muted. And later i used Format Factory to change my music to the right encoder and everything went fine again. I am here to list some converters that might be useful for you. But i want to renmind that i did not use all of them. but hope to be helpful.
