I have had trouble with those DL discs, too. Probably 2 out of every 5 failed somehow, so they did better on my burners but not much better...

I got a pretty good deal on some no-name dual-layers on eBay which have actually been more consistent, but I still get maybe 3 coasters for every 10 attempts...

In my experience, DL seems finicky no matter what burner you use / media you burn with...

I wonder what burning program are you using? Perhaps we've just been using the wrong programs and everyone else has had no problems with dual-layer discs... anyone else here who can shed some light on DL failure-rate?

The only DL blanks I've had great success with are Verbatim although I've never burned a lot of DL disks (less than 25).

I use Nero for burning

Verbatim is the best choice. Just feels heavier.
Getting hard to find DVDs' in retail stores around here . . .
Tons of freeware dvd burners out there . . .

Agreed. Verbatim are the best choice, Falcon are ok too. My experience with DL blanks are that the player compatibility is the biggest problem. Some players experience skipping on playback others not.
