with Azureus at work.

facts about the system:
OS: Mac OSX 10.2.8
Azureus version 2.3.0.4
Setup: University network

After searching some other thread here, I tried the built-in Azureus "configuration wizard". It says "NAT error" when I test the port. I guess that means that the port isn't forwarded.

I am extremely grateful for any suggestions!

If you have a unique IP address on your computer that is more-or-less connected to the world (that is the setup at the University where I work), then your best option would be to try other ports. Regardless, the University may packet shape against Bit Torrent traffic and it won't matter what port you use.

If you're machine has a local IP address and you're behind some type of firewall/router upstream of your connection, you need to convince the person running the firewall to forward the port down to your machine. That will depend on how well you know the folks in IT.

Yep, it sounds like the port is not forwarded. However, I don't think you can do anything about it while you are at university unless you can bribe the SysAdmin there to open the port for you.

Thanks for the replies.

However, I think there IS a way of solving this, because one time when I hooked up my ibook to the University network (plugged the cable normally going to the work comp to the ibook), I got a green face. Unfortunately I can't do that often, because I'm not the only one using the computer. But that lead me to believe that it can be solved without becoming the Sysadmin's new best friend. Any thoughts on this?

I am very grateful!

This may not make any difference without also having ports forwarded on the router or whatever, but it can't hurt to try it. I had the ports forwarded on my router but also had to do this step to make any difference.

Go to System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall > "new"
Add BitTorrent with ports 6881-6999 (these are ports BT uses, but if you know of one or more they already have forwarded downstream use that)

See if it helps. I hope it does.

I am very grateful! If itīs just a router problem you could try to connect with your ibook until you get green light. Then go to the torrent thread looking for the port number showing up for your username and enter that port into the client settings of the work comp (f.e. from 1234 to 1234). This one open port would let you download one torrent at a time.

Great suggestions! I'll try Feralicious' suggestion later today and report back to this thread. Again, thanks!

Evenreven if you find your port this way and then add it as I mentioned you should be green, and not with envy.
