livedvdcovers has issues now.
Didn't there used to be a covers section?
Just a thought.

covers would be cool... if it didn't slow down the rest of the site.

great idea...
If there is enough room for the babe thread (that's gotta be at least a Gigabyte by now ;) ) then there is enough room for a covers section imo.

I also think we should have a cover's section.

The babe thread doesnt take up really all that much b/c most people link the pics.

what's wrong with people just attaching the covers to the torrent thread? That's how I've seen people do it and it seems to work out.

Maximum attachment sizes prevent hi-rez covers being posted, only links to external sites many of which require registration (ie. hassle).

^^what Dabba said...
Also, it's hard to find them, especially if there are like 30 pages of posts to sort through...

why can't you just put the cover in with the torrent file itself
kidrocklive
2005-09-28, 08:07 PM
i mean I can see for past torrents and stuff that had died making a covers thing but for new torrents it wouldn't make any sense imo
Chachi420
2005-09-28, 08:11 PM
why can't you just put the cover in with the torrent file itself
because often the covers are created after the show has already been seeded...

lol, good point :wtf: i wasn't thinking straight
Chachi420
2005-09-28, 08:57 PM
also, sometimes people may already have the dvd and just need the cover...if the cover was only available in the torrent, then they would have to start the torrent just for the cover...

I've heard of photobucket too but never gone there.
Are image hosting sites listed in the FAQ? If not might be a good idea.

Good find feralicious but similar problem:

This is the exact reason I came to this section of the website. I would love a covers section even if just a link to the cover was posted there. Just like Chachi420 said....many times the covers are made after the torrent has died so this would be a prefect thing. What the hell has been going with livedvdcovers.org anyways??????

First off its a bummer for the guy running it b/c he gest no donations. Second they also just dont reallly do much upkeep or upload the new covers to the main section.

I've talked to Mike about his site, LiveDVDCovers, and he's working on the issues he was having. So, let's see if he can get his site back up and running.

I'm not going to sit here and bitch about the lack of support/help I get.
One thing I will say though is that Google Adsense sucks ass. After two weeks I had roughly $30 in my account. I thought my money problems were finally solved but then just out of the blue they shut down my Adsense account and took all of the money because of "unauthorized activity" or some shit like that. I clicked on one ad on my site because I wanted to know what it was. Apparantly this is against their policy. What a bunch of crap.
Anyways, if you'd like to help out, I need a mod or two. The two that I've had haven't worked out too well. I also need donations. I will be bringing back the site without the forums tonight or tomorrow. Depending on how that goes it may be up and down. Something or someone is killing my MySQL db and it's taking up way too much memory after just an hour or so. Once that problem is fixed things will be back to normal (hopefully). If you'd like to help out, PM me here or email me (preferred) at mgleason007 [AT] bootleglist [DOT] [nospam] com
EDIT: Oh yes, I also need someone who's good at optimizing php code with a mysql database.

It would be nice to have a sticky thread here with the livedvdcovers link and also a request for donations...
I think if all of us donate $4.20 then we can keep that site running...

If all registered members of livedvdcovers.org donated $1 I'd have the funds for the server for about 9 months.

I am still trying to work out what exactly is causing my server to become non-responsive. It is still doing it even though I basically have livedvdcovers.org shut down. The hurricane is supposed to be here tomorrow morning. No one really knows what will happen so I may be without power and Internet for several days or weeks. Sorry this update isn't a little more helpful or uplifting :(

I need to get with Mike and see what we can work out and see if we can put the covers section on the second server. Right now, if we put it on this server and into the database, it would slow down the site.
So, we are thinking about it.

we could always temporaroly just have a covers "forum" and just upload to imageshack/photobucket and just thumbnail them in.

OK guys, here's what I'm going to do....
I'm going to try to move the attachments out of the database and into the files system. The last time I did this, it caused problems for uploading to the tracker. However, that was a different tracker. So, I have a test torrent already to put onto the tracker as soon as I move the attachments. If everything runs smoothly, then I'm going to add a Covers forum.
What I need to know is:
Maximum filesize in bytes for these covers. I don't collect them, so I really don't know.
And, maximum dimension size in pixels.
toto, you should be able to grab that stuff from the covers you have. I can always adjust later if we are off.

Just another reason why I love you Lynne! :icon_hug:
For the ones I make they are 3225 x 2156 pixels and generally between 2 and 4 MB.
This is going to really help out the DVD section (I'm not sure the audio people care much, but I may be wrong)

WOOOHOO! Thanks lynne! :D :D :D
Yea what chachi said is about right, they vary between 2 and 4 mb, most hit around 3 though. Over at livedvdcovers they were labeled: bandname.YYYY.MM.DD (and the author was thrown in there somwere)

Ok guys, I've got a Covers forum up for you. Please, please, PLEASE try to do your thread titles in a consistant manner as I state at the top of the forums. Being consistant with the Full Band Name and the date format of YYYY-MM-DD will make it much easier for people to find stuff when doing a search on the site.

I'm glad we worked things through :thumbsup
Anyways, expect something a little more ambitious than my last project from me hopefully sometime this weekend. I think you'll all enjoy it :)
For those interested, I managed to narrow down what the problem was. I'm not going to go into details here, but I hope you felt pretty 133t taking down a site that got about 100 hits or so a day. I'm sure your fellow script kiddies are proud of you.

The site is back up. Well, the covers archive is but not the forums. This is just so you guys don't need to wait for me to finish my next project. If you can't get to the site you may need to wait for your DNS to propogate as I nulled the DNS.

Oh yeah (wish I had the edit button available longer) for those that volunteered, I'll be getting back to you soon. Thanks for your support. Covers can still be submitted at the normal email address, which is
[email protected] until I get the new site up.

I may be giving up on this whole thing. The server I ordered is taking longer than expected to setup. I don't know what their problem is but I'm not happy with them. Another case of great help before the sale and nothing once I submit my order.

Actually Sharing the Groove had a very active CD cover forum, with hardly any DVD. 2-4 MB????? What the ---? Are these BMP or JPEG? I have done a thousand CD covers, slimline format,2 pieces at 100 to 150 kb on average,as jpegs. Any resolution beyond 200 is a waste of ink,I get VERY sharp photo glossy prints from covers with res settings as low as 130,and for the sake of content and design sometimes go as low as 120. I replaced my now killed 6 ink canon with a 6 ink epson
I CAN scan a cruddy newspaper pic and get a crappy image for a cover, even though it has a res of 400,and is a 350 kb file. as a photographer I like resolution for 11x14 prints, but for a cd/dvd the pics are much smaller.
