View Full Version : Why don't seeds & peers shown in tracker show up in my BT client?

Why is it that if I look at a torrents stats on the tracker, it may show 5 seeds and 12 peers, but when I connect, my client may only show 2 seeds and 5 peers?

Also, if I have finished downloading and have my window open to seed, my client may show 0 seeds and 3 leechers and I think I am their only seed, but if I go to the tracker it may show 4 seeds and even more leechers than my client shows.

Why is there this discrepancy between tracker and client?

How can I connect to more of the seeds?

I am not firewalled (green light, baby), but never see the same connections as the tracker. I can understand if there are hundreds of peers, not connecting to all of them, but with a small swarm, why not?

Is there any setting I can change in my client (BitTornado) to allow more connections to seeds/peers?

Thanks for any feedback. This has been puzzling me for some time now.

Your client only shows you how many seeds/peers *you* are connecting to, not the total available. They may be firewalled or something and not be able to connect to you or could be only asking to connect to so many people. And, usually when you go into seed only mode, the client will disconnect you from the other seeds (there is no reason for you to still be connected to them). Usually that is an option somewhere in the preferences.

Thanks for the reply.

Both those statements make sense, now that you mention it.

It would be nice if more people took the time to resolve their firewall issues. I realize that a few may have some legitimate excuse, but I'm sure most of them are just lazy and selfish. It's a shame, because I frequently see torrents where 1/3 of those connected are firewalled. I even PM them and send them a guide I wrote and offer to help them, but they just ignore the offer. If you can learn to d/l, why stop before you learn to do it right? It pisses me off.

On the subject of BitTornado, after I complete a download should I change my settings from dsl/cable fast to something else? I was thinking that I should maybe change it to unlimited or seed or super-seed, but I wanted to ask before doing that.
