The end of an era: Winamp's shutting down (http://www.pcworld.com/article/2064877/the-end-of-an-era-winamps-shutting-down.html)

After more than 15 years, the famous Winamp media player will shut down on December 20, its makers announced Wednesday.

The announcement itself was a whimper—a small banner notification on the Winamp website—rather than a bang, and the end seems sadly appropriate. The skinnable media player was all the rage at the turn of the century, but barely made a peep since being acquired by AOL in 1999.

After years of floundering, Winamp released Android and Mac versions in 2010 and 2011, respectively, but that appears to have been too little, too late.

Sad news. Winamp has always been my audio player. I'll keep using it until it doesn't work anymore.

My preferred skin has been Nucleo ever since I found it:

Saw this earlier as for whatever reason Winamp quit working until I rebooted my PC. A great program and it will be missed.

I still use the old 2.x version to spawn for MP3 quick checks.
It's great.

AOL sucks balls

I like Winamp too, always used it. What do people recommend instead? :hmm:

I used winamp long ago and found multiple skins for it from someone in New York.
She had created many skins from Roger Deans work and Yes's album catalog.
She even made skins from Jon Anderson's solo album Olias Of Sunhillo and Patrick Moraz The Story Of I.
They were pretty cool
