I am informed that "kickass.to" is down and that some servers, such as sky in the uk are claiming they have been ordered to block access to it. Any other info?

Yes, many torrent sites are being blocked for users located in the UK. This is done at an ISP level. Of course, there are many ways around these blocks.

Daniels way is also blocked. There is alot of official stuff there but the odd "legal" gem. Shame that the legal stuff brings down the wrath of the establishment.
